Bhuvaneśvarī trailokyamaṅgala kavacam (भुवनेश्वरी त्रैलोक्यमङ्गल कवचम्)

 

Prologue - Śrī Bhuvaneśvarī Devi, is the fourth Mahāvidya among the ten wisdom goddesses. She is associated with all worldly possessions and the acquisition of the four puruṣārthas: dharma (justice, law), artha (wealth), kāma (desires) and mokṣa (liberation). This kavacam (shield of armor) is an essential supplement to Her mantra japa and is mandated for serious aspirants. It may also be recited on its own, for obtaining the aforesaid benefits. It may take a year or so for the results to manifest, but one will not be disappointed with this magnificent hymn, that promises abundant wealth and prosperity.

śrīgaṇeśāya namaḥ

श्रीगणेशाय नमः ।

Salutations to Lord Gaṇeśā. May He remove all obstacles and lead us to get the full benefits of this Kavacam (Shield of armor).

devyuvāca (देव्युवाच) :-

deveśa bhuvaneśvaryā yā yā vidyāḥ prakāśitāḥ ।

śrutāśc-ādhigatāḥ sarvāḥ śrotum-icchāmi sāmpratam ॥ 1 ॥

देवेश भुवनेश्वर्या या या विद्याः प्रकाशिताः ।

श्रुताश्चाधिगताः सर्वाः श्रोतुमिच्छामि साम्प्रतम् ॥ १ ॥

The Divine Mother Devi spoke – Oh dear Lord! Can you please narrate and shed light on the Divine Mother Śrī Bhuvaneśvarī and explain Her significance, which is most effective and applicable for the current moment? Please reveal the complete knowledge of the Divine Mother Śrī Bhuvaneśvarī and fulfill my cherished wish.

trailokya-maṅgalaṃ nāma kavacaṃ yat-puroditam

kathayasva mahādeva mama prītikaraṃ param 2

त्रैलोक्यमङ्गलं नाम कवचं यत्पुरोदितम् ।

कथयस्व महादेव मम प्रीतिकरं परम् ॥ २ ॥

Oh dear Lord Mahādeva (Śiva), please illustrate all the details of the kavacam, popularly known as trailokya-maṅgalaṃ nāma kavacaṃ, representing fulfillment of all tasks and cherished wishes, in all the three realms and triads and considered as complete in all aspects, to obtain the blessings of the Divine Mother Śrī Bhuvaneśvarī.

īśvara uvāca (ईश्वर उवाच) :-

śṛṇu pārvati vakṣyāmi sāvadhān-āvadhāraya

trailokya-maṅgalaṃ nāma kavacaṃ mantra-vigraham 3

शृणु पार्वति वक्ष्यामि सावधानावधारय ।

त्रैलोक्यमङ्गलं नाम कवचं मन्त्रविग्रहम् ॥ ३ ॥

Lord īśvara (Śiva) spoke – Please listen very attentively my dear Pārvati (Devi). I shall speak about the trailokya-maṅgalaṃ nāma kavacaṃ, which is a mantra by itself and very fruitful.

siddha-vidyāmayaṃ devi sarvaiśvarya-samanvitam

paṭhanād-dhāraṇān-martyas-trailokya-iśvarya-bhāg-bhavet 4

सिद्धविद्यामयं देवि सर्वैश्वर्यसमन्वितम् ।

पठनाद्धारणान्मर्त्यस्त्रैलोक्यैश्वर्यभाग्भवेत् ॥ ४ ॥

This mantra accomplishes all tasks and also grants the magical powers called siddhis. The Divine Mother Śrī Bhuvaneśvarī grants all types of wealth and prosperity, that one can ask for and much more. One can recite this kavacam or wear it, to accomplish any task in all the three realms and gain supremacy over all triads.

viniyogaḥ (विनियोगः) -

om̐ asya śrī-bhuvaneśvarī-trailokya-maṅgala-kavacasya

śiva ṛṣiḥ

virāṭ chandaḥ

jagaddhātrī bhuvaneśvarī devatā

dharmārtha-kāma-mokṣārthe jape viniyogaḥ ॥ 5

ॐ अस्य श्रीभुवनेश्वरीत्रैलोक्यमङ्गलकवचस्य

जगद्धात्री भुवनेश्वरी देवता

धर्मार्थकाममोक्षार्थे जपे विनियोगः ॥ ५ ॥

Meaning:- This prayer/mantra japa is to invoke Śrī Bhuvaneśvarī Devi and perform Her trailokya maṅgala kavaca mantra japa to obtain Her complete grace in all aspects, and to obtain the four puruṣārthas: dharma (justice, law), artha (wealth), kāma (desires) and mokṣa (liberation). The sage (ṛṣiḥ) is Śiva, the meter (chandas) for the mantra is Virāṭ and the deity is the universal mother Śrī Jagaddhātrī Bhuvaneśvarī.

Open the right palm and touch the top of the forehead with the ring and thumb fingers joined at the top.

Touch the heart with the right palm.

Run both the palms all over the body.

Kavacamārambham (कवचमारम्भम्) -

(Start of the kavacam)

hrīm̐ bījaṃ me śiraḥ pātu bhuvaneśī lalāṭakam

aim̐ pātu dakṣa-netraṃ me hrīm̐ pātu vāma-locanam ॥ 6

ह्रीँ बीजं मे शिरः पातु भुवनेशी ललाटकम् ।

ऐँ पातु दक्षनेत्रं मे ह्रीँ पातु वामलोचनम् ॥ ६ ॥

The high power wielding Māyā and Śrī Bhuvaneśvarī bīja hrīm̐, protects the head at all times and Śrī Bhuvaneśvarī Devī, protects the forehead. The knowledge bestowing Sarasvatī bīja protects the right eye and the power bestowing Māyā and Śrī Bhuvaneśvarī bīja hrīm̐, protects the left eye.

śrīm̐ pātu dakṣa-karṇaṃ me trivarṇātmā maheśvarī

vāma-karṇaṃ sadā pātu aim̐ ghrāṇaṃ pātu me sadā ॥ 7

श्रीँ पातु दक्षकर्णं मे त्रिवर्णात्मा महेश्वरी ।

वामकर्णं सदा पातु ऐँ घ्राणं पातु मे सदा ॥ ७ ॥

The fruitful and prosperity bestowing Śrī Lakṣmī bīja śrīm̐, protects the right ear. The blessings to hear, talk and conceptualize articulate speech in verbal and written form, is granted by the Supreme Divine Mother Maheśvarī, who protects the left ear. The nostrils are protected by the knowledge bestowing Sarasvatī bīja aim̐.

hrīm̐ pātu vadanaṃ devi aim̐ pātu rasanāṃ mama

vākpuṭā ca trivarṇātmā kaṇṭhaṃ pātu parātmikā ॥ 8

ह्रीँ पातु वदनं देवि ऐँ पातु रसनां मम ।

वाक्पुटा च त्रिवर्णात्मा कण्ठं पातु परात्मिका ॥ ८ ॥

The power bestowing Māyā and Śrī Bhuvaneśvarī bīja hrīm̐, protects the mouth and the knowledge bestowing Sarasvatī bīja aim̐, protects the tongue and the sense of taste. The speech itself is under the influence of the Divine Mother Trivarṇātmā, who signifies the sense of hearing, speech and writing. The throat is protected by the Supreme Divine Mother Parātmikā.

śrīm̐ skandhau pātu niyataṃ hrīm̐ bhujau pātu sarvadā

klīm̐ karau tripuṭā pātu tripur-aiśvaryadāyinī ॥ 9

श्रीँ स्कन्धौ पातु नियतं ह्रीँ भुजौ पातु सर्वदा ।

क्लीँ करौ त्रिपुटा पातु त्रिपुरैश्वर्यदायिनी ॥ ९ ॥

The fruitful and prosperity bestowing Śrī Lakṣmī bīja śrīm̐, protects the shoulders at all times. The high power bestowing Māyā and Śrī Bhuvaneśvarī bīja hrīm̐, protects the arms at all times. The desire fulfilling Kāma bīja klīm̐, protects the hands. The hips are protected by the prosperity and wealth bestowing Divine Mother Tripur-aiśvaryadāyinī.

om̐ pātu hṛdayaṃ hrīm̐ me madhya-deśaṃ sadāvatu

kraum̐ pātu nābhi-deśaṃ me tryakṣarī bhuvaneśvarī ॥ 10

ॐ पातु हृदयं ह्रीँ मे मध्यदेशं सदावतु ।

क्रौँ पातु नाभिदेशं मे त्र्यक्षरी भुवनेश्वरी ॥ १० ॥

The Praṇava and Śabda Brahman om̐ protects the heart. The high power bestowing Māyā and Śrī Bhuvaneśvarī bīja hrīm̐, protects the central region of the body. The transformative kraum̐ bīja, protects the naval along with the blessings of the Divine Mother Śrī Bhuvaneśvarī and Her three lettered mantra aim̐ hrīm̐ śrīm̐.

sarvabījapradā pṛṣṭhaṃ pātu sarva-vaśaṅkarī

hrīm̐ pātu guhya-deśaṃ me namo-bhagavatī kaṭim ॥ 11

सर्वबीजप्रदा पृष्ठं पातु सर्ववशङ्करी ।

ह्रीँ पातु गुह्यदेशं मे नमोभगवती कटिम् ॥ ११ ॥

All the bījas (seed syllables) of Śrī Bhuvaneśvarī along with every other bīja, combine together with the all enticing Divine Mother Sarva-vaśaṅkarī, to protect the backside of the body. The high power bestowing Māyā and Śrī Bhuvaneśvarī bīja hrīm̐, protects the private parts. The Divine Mother Bhagavatī Herself protects the waist region.

māheśvarī sadā pātu śaṅkhinī jānu-yugmakam

annapūrṇā sadā pātu svāhā pātu pāda-dvayam ॥ 12

माहेश्वरी सदा पातु शङ्खिनी जानुयुग्मकम् ।

अन्नपूर्णा सदा पातु स्वाहा पातु पादद्वयम् ॥ १२ ॥

The mighty Divine Mother Māheśvarī, protects us at all times. The martial Divine Mother Śaṅkhinī, protects the knees of both legs. The nourishment providing Divine Mother Annapūrṇā and the oblation bīja svāhā, together protect both the feet completely.

sapta-daśākṣarā pāyād-annapūrṇ-ākhilaṃ vapuḥ

tāraṃ māyā ramā-kāmaḥ ṣoḍaśārṇā tataḥ param ॥ 13

सप्तदशाक्षरा पायादन्नपूर्णाखिलं वपुः ।

तारं माया रमाकामः षोडशार्णा ततः परम् ॥ १३ ॥

Complete protection is offered to the devotee by the seventeen lettered (sapta-daśākṣarā) mantra of Śrī Bhuvaneśvarī (om̐ śrīm̐ klīm̐ sauḥ hrīm̐ bhuvaneśvari om̐ hūm̐ ṭhaḥ ṭhaḥ ṭhaḥ svāhā), along with the twenty lettered Annapūrṇā devi mantra made of the bījas – Tāra (om̐), Māyā (hrīm̐), Ramā (śrīm̐), Kāma (klīm̐) combined with the sixteen parts of Her mantra (namo bhagavati maheśvari annapūrṇe svāhā), to form the complete mantra (om̐ hrīm̐ śrīm̐ klīm̐ namo bhagavati maheśvari annapūrṇe svāhā).

śiraḥsthā sarvadā pātu viṃśatyarṇātmikā parā

tāraṃ durge yugaṃ rakṣiṇī svāheti daśākṣarā ॥ 14

शिरःस्था सर्वदा पातु विंशत्यर्णात्मिका परा ।

तारं दुर्गे युगं रक्षिणी स्वाहेति दशाक्षरा ॥ १४ ॥

The above referenced twenty lettered mantra protects the head at all times and provides liberation. The ten lettered Jaya Durgā mantra formed of the bīja of Tāra (om̐), combined twice with the word “durge”, followed by the word “rakṣiṇī” and ending in the oblation bīja “svāhā” becomes – (om̐ durge durge rakṣiṇi svāhā) -

jayadurgā ghanaśyāmā pātu māṃ sarvato mudā

māyā-bījādikā caiṣā daśārṇā ca tataḥ parā ॥ 15

जयदुर्गा घनश्यामा पातु मां सर्वतो मुदा ।

मायाबीजादिका चैषा दशार्णा च ततः परा ॥ १५ ॥

The victory granting and dark complexioned Divine Mother Jaya Durgā protects us at all times and gives us immense joy and success in all undertakings. The māyā bīja (hrīm̐), combines with the ten lettered mantra to become (om̐ hrīm̐ durge durge rakṣiṇi svāhā), to provide protection at all times.

uttapta-kāñcan-ābhāsā jayadurgā''nane'vatu

tāraṃ hrīm̐ dum̐ ca durgāyai namo'ṣṭārṇātmikā parā ॥ 16

उत्तप्तकाञ्चनाभासा जयदुर्गाऽऽननेऽवतु ।

तारं ह्रीँ दुँ च दुर्गायै नमोऽष्टार्णात्मिका परा ॥ १६ ॥

Seated on a golden lotus and radiating brilliantly, the victory granting Divine Mother Jaya Durgā, gives Her grace and protects us at all times, from the South Eastern direction. The bījas of the Divine Mother Tāra (om̐), Māyā (hrīm̐), Durga (du), followed by the word “durgāyai” and the salutation mantra “namaḥ”, together combine to form the eight lettered Durgā Devi mantra (om̐ hrīm̐ dum̐ durgāyai namaḥ), which offers complete protection against all calamities and unfortunate events.

śaṅkha-cakra-dhanur-bāṇa-dharā māṃ dakṣiṇe'vatu

mahiṣāmardinī svāhā vasu-varṇātmikā parā ॥ 17

शङ्खचक्रधनुर्बाणधरा मां दक्षिणेऽवतु ।

महिषामर्दिनी स्वाहा वसुवर्णात्मिका परा ॥ १७ ॥

The Divine Mother Mahiṣāmardinī, who liberates us from the slothful behavior and breaks the routine, holding the conch (śaṅkha), a disc (cakra), bow (dhanu) and arrows (bāṇa), protects the Southern direction from all calamities. Together with the oblation mantra “svāhā”, She embodies all the sounds and letters of the entire Creation.

naiṛtyāṃ sarvadā pātu mahiṣāsura-nāśinī

māyā padmāvatī svāhā saptārṇā parikīrtitā ॥ 18

नैऋत्यां सर्वदा पातु महिषासुरनाशिनी ।

माया पद्मावती स्वाहा सप्तार्णा परिकीर्तिता ॥ १८ ॥

The South Western direction is always protected by the Divine Mother Mahiṣāsura-nāśinī, who brings the spiritual transformation in us and destroys our ego. She is ardently worshipped by the seven lettered mantra as (hrīm̐ padmāvatī svāhā).

padmāvatī padmasaṃsthā paścime māṃ sadā'vatu

pāśāṅkuśapuṭā māyo svāhā hi parameśvari ॥ 19

पद्मावती पद्मसंस्था पश्चिमे मां सदाऽवतु ।

पाशाङ्कुशपुटा मायो स्वाहा हि परमेश्वरि ॥ १९ ॥

The lotus dwelling Divine Mother Padmāvatī, monitors the Western direction and protects us at all times. Combined with the bīja mantras of the rope - pāśa (ām̐), the elephant goad - aṅkuśa (krom̐), māya (hrīm̐) along with the words ‘ehi’ and the Supreme Divine Mother Parameśvari -

trayodaśārṇā tārādyā aśvāruḍhā'nale'vatu

sarasvati pañcasvare nityaklinne madadrave ॥ 20

त्रयोदशार्णा ताराद्या अश्वारुढाऽनलेऽवतु ।

सरस्वति पञ्चस्वरे नित्यक्लिन्ने मदद्रवे ॥ २० ॥

Becomes the thirteen lettered mantra, with the bīja of Tārā devi (om̐) added in the front (om̐ ām̐ krom̐ hrīm̐ ehi parameśvarī svāhā). This is the mantra of the Divine Mother Aśvāruḍhā Devi, who protects us from all fears and ensures complete protection from the North Western direction. The five vowels (a, i, u, e, o) associated with the Divine Mother Sarasvati Devi combining with the always wet Divine Mother Nityaklinna Nitya Devi, followed by the word “madadrave” -

svāhā vasvakṣarā vidyā uttare māṃ sadā'vatu

tāraṃ māyā ca kavacaṃ khe rakṣet-satataṃ vadhūḥ ॥ 21

स्वाहा वस्वक्षरा विद्या उत्तरे मां सदाऽवतु ।

तारं माया च कवचं खे रक्षेत्सततं वधूः ॥ २१ ॥

And the oblation mantra “svāhā”, with the combination of the eight vāgdevatā-s: (vāsinī, kāmeśvarī, modinī, vimalā, aruṇā, jayantī, sarveśvarī and kaulinī), who further are the cause of the manifestation of the Sanskrit alphabet deities called mātṛkā-s, generate the Nityaklinna mantra (hrīm̐ nityaklinne madadrave svāhā), which protects the Northern direction at all times. The bīja of Tārā devi (om̐), bīja of Māyā devi (hrīm̐), along with that of the kavaca bīja (hum̐), followed by the letter “khe”, combined with the ever protecting bījas (ca, che) and the feminine vadhū bīja (strīm̐) -

hūm̐ kṣem̐ hrīm̐ phaṭ mahāvidyā dvādaśārṇ-ākhila-pradā

tvaritāṣṭāhibhiḥ pāyāc-chiva-koṇe sadā ca mām ॥ 22

हूँ क्षेँ ह्रीँ फट् महाविद्या द्वादशार्णाखिलप्रदा ।

त्वरिताष्टाहिभिः पायाच्छिवकोणे सदा च माम् ॥ २२ ॥

Followed by the bījas hūm̐ kṣem̐ hrīm̐ phaṭ, becomes the twelve lettered mantra of the fast acting Divine Mother Tvaritā (om̐ hrīm̐ hum̐ khe ca che strīm̐ hūm̐ kṣem̐ hrīm̐ phaṭ), who provides complete protection of the North Eastern direction.

aim̐ klīm̐ sauḥ satataṃ bālā mūrddha-deśe tato'vatu

bindvantā bhairavī bālā hastau māṃ ca sadā'vatu ॥ 23

ऐँ क्लीँ सौः सततं बाला मूर्द्धदेशे ततोऽवतु ।

बिन्द्वन्ता भैरवी बाला हस्तौ मां च सदाऽवतु ॥ २३ ॥

The three lettered Bālā Devi mantra (aim̐ klīm̐ sauḥ), protects the head region at all times. The central bindu (dot) associated with Lalitā Devi, combined with Bhairavī and Bālā Devis, forming a triad or Tripura, protect the hands at all times.

phalaśruti (फलश्रुति)

(Expected results from reciting the kavacam on a regular basis)

iti te kathitaṃ puṇyaṃ trailokya-maṅgalaṃ param

sārāt-sāra-taraṃ puṇyaṃ mahā-vidyaugha-vigraham ॥ 24

इति ते कथितं पुण्यं त्रैलोक्यमङ्गलं परम् ।

सारात्सारतरं पुण्यं महाविद्यौघविग्रहम् ॥ २४ ॥

Thus all merits are acquired by this most auspicious Trailokya maṅgala kavacam, that contains the essence of the entire Creation and is the embodiment of the most auspicious Mahāvidya Śrī Bhuvaneśvarī.

asyāpi paṭhanāt-sadyaḥ kubero'pi dhaneśvaraḥ

indrādyāḥ sakalā devā dhāraṇāt-paṭhanād-yataḥ ॥ 25

अस्यापि पठनात्सद्यः कुबेरोऽपि धनेश्वरः ।

इन्द्राद्याः सकला देवा धारणात्पठनाद्यतः ॥ २५ ॥

One who recites the kavacam on a regular basis, will become equivalent to that of the celestial treasurer Kubera, in terms of accumulation of material wealth and prosperity. The celestial surās such as Indra and all others, wear as well as recite this kavacam on a regular basis, to retain their superiority and powers.

sarva-siddh-iśvarāḥ santaḥ sarvaiśvaryam-avāpnuyuḥ

puṣpāñjaly-aṣṭakaṃ dadyān-mūle-naiva pṛthak pṛthak ॥ 26

सर्वसिद्धिश्वराः सन्तः सर्वैश्वर्यमवाप्नुयुः ।

पुष्पाञ्जल्यष्टकं दद्यान्मूलेनैव पृथक् पृथक् ॥ २६ ॥

All types of magical and super-natural powers called siddhis can be attained, all types of wealth in abundance, is attained through the recitation of this kavacam on a regular basis. One must offer flowers and coagulated milk separately, as flower and food offerings to the Divine Mother to please and obtain Her blessings, in a timely manner.

saṃvatsara-kṛtā-yāstu pūjāyāḥ phalam-āpnuyāt

prītimanyo'nyataḥ kṛtvā kamalā niścalā gṛhe ॥ 27

संवत्सरकृतायास्तु पूजायाः फलमाप्नुयात् ।

प्रीतिमन्योऽन्यतः कृत्वा कमला निश्चला गृहे ॥ २७ ॥

Doing so for a year and worshipping Her ardently, one will be able to obtain all the desired wishes and one will have everlasting wealth that will last several lifetimes. There will be no dearth of anything in the household of the devotee.

vāṇī ca nivased-vaktre satyaṃ satyaṃ na saṃśayaḥ

yo dhārayati puṇyātmā trailokya-maṅgalābhidham ॥ 28

वाणी च निवसेद्वक्त्रे सत्यं सत्यं न संशयः ।

यो धारयति पुण्यात्मा त्रैलोक्यमङ्गलाभिधम् ॥ २८ ॥

The Divine Mother Sarasvatī (vāṇī) Devi, will bestow immense knowledge, education and mellifluous speech to the meritorious devotee, who wears this kavacam. One need not have any doubts over this, as this is the solemn Truth! Such are the merits of this Trailokya maṅgala kavacam, that bestows abundance of all kind.

kavacaṃ paramaṃ puṇyaṃ so'pi puṇyavatāṃ varaḥ

sarvaiśvarya-yuto bhūtvā trailokya-vijayī bhavet ॥ 29

कवचं परमं पुण्यं सोऽपि पुण्यवतां वरः ।

सर्वैश्वर्ययुतो भूत्वा त्रैलोक्यविजयी भवेत् ॥ २९ ॥

This highly auspicious kavacam that bestows immense good karma and fulfills all wishes, provides unlimited wealth and prosperity of all kinds available on Earth. It is not limited in its efficacy to just the terrestrial world, but is also very effective in winning and obtaining anything in all the three realms. One gains victory over all triads and will ultimately gain self-realization.

puruṣo dakṣiṇe bāhau nārī vāma-bhuje tathā

bahu-putravatī bhūyād-vandhyāpi labhate sutam ॥ 30

पुरुषो दक्षिणे बाहौ नारी वामभुजे तथा ।

बहुपुत्रवती भूयाद्वन्ध्यापि लभते सुतम् ॥ ३० ॥

Men may wear this kavacam on their right arms and women should choose the left arm. Doing so, one will obtain many children and the couple will never be barren. All fertility-related issues will be resolved by wearing this kavacam and reciting it regularly with utmost devotion.

brahmāstrādīni śastrāṇi naiva kṛntanti taṃ janam

etat-kavacam-ajñātvā yo bhajed-bhuvaneśvarīm

dāridryaṃ paramaṃ prāpya so'cirān-mṛtyum-āpnuyāt ॥ 31

ब्रह्मास्त्रादीनि शस्त्राणि नैव कृन्तन्ति तं जनम् ।

एतत्कवचमज्ञात्वा यो भजेद्भुवनेश्वरीम् ।

दारिद्र्यं परमं प्राप्य सोऽचिरान्मृत्युमाप्नुयात् ॥ ३१ ॥

One will gain access to great weapons capable of annihilating enemies in scores. One who does not recite the kavacam associated with the Divine Mother Bhuvaneśvarī, but goes ahead with Her mantra japa ignoring the kavacam, may himself fall prey to these dangerous weapons and will also face immense misery, loss of wealth and poverty, infliction with incurable diseases and will also face untimely death.

iti śrīrudrayāmale tantre devīśvara saṃvāde

trailokya-maṅgalaṃ nāma bhuvaneśvarī-kavacaṃ sampūrṇam

॥ इति श्रीरुद्रयामले तन्त्रे देवीश्वर संवादे

त्रैलोक्यमङ्गलं नाम भुवनेश्वरीकवचं सम्पूर्णम् ॥
