Atha Śrī Caturākṣara Heramba Gaṇapati Mahāmantraḥ (अथ श्री चतुराक्षर हेरम्ब गणपति महामन्त्रः) :-

Purpose :- To attain knowledge of the Divine, Spiritual wealth and accomplishment of all desires, material and spiritual. Removal of all obstacles in our progress and ushering in auspiciousness.

Introduction :- Śrī Gaṇapati is verily the eternal singular reality – Brahman Itself. He bestows spiritual knowledge, removes all obstacles in our progress and dispels all ignorance to help us expand our consciousness to its highest level. This one lettered mantra is also His seed bīja mantra, which also represents the Gāyatrī mātṛkā śakti, enhances the faculties of discernment, assimilation of knowledge and progress on material and spiritual fronts. The sincere devotees of Lord Gaṇeśa will experience great comforts and well-being in their lives and He is adored and duly worshipped before the start of any new beginnings. Śrī Heramba Gaṇapati is invoked to remove all obstacles in our progress, remove all fears, worries and doubts and grant success in all endeavors. He is five headed, representing the aspects of Creation, Preservation, Destruction, Concealment or Annihilation and Resurrection.

1. Viniyogaḥ (विनियोगः) :-

asya śrī heramba gaṇapati mantrasya

gaṇaka ṛṣiḥ

gāyatrī chandaḥ

pañca vaktra heramba devatā

sarvābhīṣṭa siddhyarthe jape viniyogaḥ

अस्य श्री हेरम्ब गणपति मन्त्रस्य ।

गणक ऋषिः ।

गायत्री छन्दः ।

पञ्च वक्त्र हेरम्ब देवता ।

सर्वाभीष्ट सिद्ध्यर्थे जपे विनियोगः ॥

Meaning:- This prayer/mantra japa is to invoke Śrī Heramba Gaṇapati and perform His mantra japa to obtain His complete grace in all aspects, and to obtain the four puruṣārtha-s – dharma (justice, law), artha (wealth), kāma (desires) and mokṣa (liberation) and all desires that one may seek from the Divine. The sage (ṛṣiḥ) is the obstacle remover Lord Gaṇaka, the meter (chandas) for the mantra is Gāyatrī and the deity is Śrī Pañca Vaktra Heramba Gaṇapati.

2. Ṛṣyādi nyāsa ( ऋष्यादि न्यास ) :-

Touch the heart with the right palm.

Sarvābhīṣṭa siddhyarthe jape viniyogāya namaḥ sarvāṅge

सर्वाभीष्ट सिद्ध्यर्थे जपे विनियोगाय नमः सर्वाङ्गे

Run both the palms all over the body.

gaḥ karatalakarapṛṣṭhābhyāṃ namaḥ

गः करतलकरपृष्ठाभ्यां नमः

Open both the palms; run the opened palms of the right hand on the front and back sides of the left palm and repeat the same for the other palm.

गैँ कवचाय हुँ

Cross both the hands and run the fully opened palms from shoulders to finger tips.

gaum̐ netratrayāya vauṣaṭ

गौँ नेत्रत्रयाय वौषट्

Touch the eyes with the right index and ring fingers, with the middle finger touching the ājña cakra.

6

gaḥ astrāya phaṭ

गः अस्त्राय फट्

Open up the left palm and strike it three times with index and middle fingers of the right hand.

7

iti ṣaḍaṅga nyāsaḥ

इति षडङ्ग न्यासः

 

bhūr-bhuva-ssuvarom-iti digbandhaḥ ॥

भूर्भुवस्सुवरोमिति दिग्बन्धः॥

(May all the directions be bound and no interferences come from any direction.)

5. Dhyānaṃ (ध्यानं) :-

muktā vidyun-megha dugdha kāśmīrī sannibhair-mukhaiḥ

gajavat pañcabhiryuktaḥ kirīṭī cāsihastakaḥ

aṅkuśaṃ ca triśūlaṃ ca mudgaraṃ ca kapālakaṃ

svayantam-abhayaṃ cāpi varaṃ modakameva ca

paraśuṃ cākṣa mālāṃ ca dadhataṃ kara paṅkajaiḥ

koṭi sūrya pratīkāśaṃ dhyāyed-herambam-avyayam

मुक्ता विद्युन्मेघ दुग्ध काश्मीरी सन्निभैर्मुखैः ।

गजवत् पञ्चभिर्युक्तः किरीटी चासिहस्तकः ॥

अङ्कुशं च त्रिशूलं च मुद्गरं च कपालकं ।

स्वयन्तमभयं चापि वरं मोदकमेव च ॥

परशुं चाक्ष मालां च दधतं कर पङ्कजैः ।

कोटि सूर्य प्रतीकाशं ध्यायेधेरम्बमव्ययम् ॥

Meaning:  Salutations to the Divine Lord Heramba Gaṇapati, the remover of all fear, worries and obstacles, who appears with five faces in pearl white, golden, purple, jasmine white and saffron yellow complexions. He radiates with the brilliance of zillions of suns. He displays an elephant goad (aṅkuśaṃ) and a trident (triśūlaṃ) on His uppermost set of arms. A three-headed mallet (mudgara) and a skull cup (kapālakaṃ) on the second layer of arms from the top, His own tusk and the fear allaying Abhaya mudra on the third set of arms from top, the wish granting Vara mudra and a sweetmeat modaka on the fourth set of arms and finally a battle-axe (paraśuṃ) and a rosary (akṣamālā) in His lowermost fifth set of arms.

The various complexions resonate with His battle readiness. The Vara mudra represents His disposition to grant all our cherished desires. The Abhaya mudra signifies His assurance of protection at all times. The modaka denotes the benefits and largesse that He bestows upon His sincere devotees. The broken tusk represents His status as the Eternal Singular Reality. The skull cup represents the mind cleared of all attachments. The battle-axe severs all ego. The rosary represents a path to attain His grace, as well as all the letters of the alphabet and the mantras. The mallet is for pounding the most stubborn karmas and smashing of all obstacles. The elephant goad Aṅkuśa, represents the driving away of stubborn karma that binds us to the worldly existence and the eternal cycle of life and death, cause and effects of the material reality. The trident is for piercing all the triads to gain self-realization and liberation.

यँ - वाय्वात्मिकायै धूपमाघ्रापयामि

 

Hold the lower tip of the bottom phalange of the index fingers of both hands with the upper tip of the thumbs, with the back of the hand facing us.

ram̐ - agnyātmikāyai dīpaṁ darśayāmi

 

रँ - अग्न्यात्मिकायै दीपं दर्शयामि

 

Hold the lower tip of the bottom phalange of the middle fingers of both hands with the upper tip of the thumbs, with the back of the hand facing us.

vam̐ - amṛtātmikāyai amṛtaṁ mahānaivedyaṁ nivedayāmi

 

वँ - अमृतात्मिकायै अमृतं महानैवेद्यं निवेदयामि

 

Hold the lower tip of the bottom phalange of the ring fingers of both hands with the upper tip of the thumbs, with the back of the hand facing us.

sam̐ - sarvātmikāyai sarvopacāra pūjām samarpayāmi

 

सँ - सर्वात्मिकायै सर्वोपचार पूजाम् समर्पयामि

 

Hold the fingers of each palm in a folded manner with the tips of each fingers of both hands touching each other and the thumbs facing the heart, in a Namaste position.

7. Japamālā mantraṃ (जपमाला मन्त्रं) :-

Recite the below mantra once, to pray to the japa māla and invoke the blessings for a fruitful japa.

om̐ māṃ māle mahāmāye sarvamantra svarūpiṇi ।
caturvarga stvayinyasta stasmānye siddhidā bhava ॥

ॐ मां माले महामाये सर्वमन्त्र स्वरूपिणि ।
चतुर्वर्ग स्त्वयिन्यस्त स्तस्मान्ये सिद्धिदा भव॥

8. Guru Mantra (गुरु मन्त्र) :-  Recite the following guru mantra once, to seek the blessings of all gurus and the Guru.

om̐ hrīm̐ siddhaguro prasīda hrīm̐ om̐

ॐ ह्रीँ सिद्धगुरो प्रसीद ह्रीँ ॐ ।

9. Āsana mantra (आसन मन्त्र) : Recite the following mantra requesting the Divine Father Śrī Heramba Gaṇapati to mount His lion and take seat.

oṃ hūm̐ hūm̐ mahāsiṃhāya gam̐ herambamāsanāya namaḥ ।

ॐ हूँ हूँ महासिंहाय गँ हेरम्बमासनाय नमः ।

10. Atha Śrī Caturākṣara Heramba Gaṇapati Mahā Mantraḥ (अथ श्री चतुराक्षर हेरम्ब गणपतिमहामन्त्रः) -

The 4 lettered mantra of Śrī Heramba Gaṇapati is -

om̐ ṭhām̐ namaḥ

ॐ ठाँ नमः ।

Meaning:

The praava bīja om̐ () represents the Śabda Brahman, which is the super-consciousness Itself, manifested as sound. It consists of – ‘au’ signifying healing and deep cleansing, ‘’ for removal of misery.

The bīja (seed) mantra ṭhām̐  (ठाँ)  consists of – ṭha’ indicating Ṭhaṅkāriṇī Devi, representing the destruction of all types of affliction through knowledge and action, ā’ (आ ) indicates Ākarṣiṇi Devi meaning devolution and expansion and Vindu ‘’ indicating Duḥkhaharaṇa or removal of all miseries.

Overall, the mantra thoroughly cleanses us of all afflictions and karma hindering our progress in all aspects.

The salutations bīja (seed) mantra namaḥ (नमः) is used for paying our obeisance to the Divine Father.

14. Samarpaṇam (समर्पणम्) :- Take water in uttaraṇi (spoon) and by reciting the following śloka, offer the water to the earth.

guhyātiguhyagoptrā tvaṁ gṛhāṇāsmat-kṛtaṁ japam।

siddhirbhavatu me deva tvatprasādānmayi sthirā ॥

गुह्यातिगुह्यगोप्त्रा त्वं गृहाणास्मत्-कृतं जपम्।

सिद्धिर्भवतु मे देव त्वत्प्रसादान्मयि स्थिरा ॥

15. japānaṃtaraṃ mālāmantraṃ (जपानंतरं मालामन्त्रं) :-

Recite the below śloka and mantra, followed by placing the māla upon the top of the head and then place it back in the māla bag and conceal it. It should NOT be worn.

śubhaṃ kuruṣya me bhadre yaśo vīryaṃ ca dehime॥

शुभं कुरुष्य मे भद्रे यशो वीर्यं च देहिमे॥
