Atha caturmukhī rudrākṣa dhāraṇavidhiḥ (अथ चतुर्मुखी रुद्राक्ष धारणविधिः)

 

Source: Rudrākṣa dhāraṇa vidhi.

Purpose: To obtain all the four puruṣārthas: dharma (righteousness), artha (wealth), kāma (desires) and mokṣa (liberation) by wearing the four-faced Rudrākṣa bead.

Initiation: Required.

  1. Prayogaḥ (प्रयोगः) –

एवं ध्यात्वा मानसोपचारैः संपूज्य कुर्याज्जपसहस्रकं तदन्तरमाभिमुख्यसामीप्यं घटोपरि ताम्रपात्रं निधाय तत्र रुद्राक्षं क्षिप्त्वा पङ्क्तिप्राणायायं कृत्वा ।

पश्चात् वामे जलपात्रं धृत्वा जत्र तले सव्यहस्तं धृत्वा दक्षिणपाणिना सहस्रजपं कुर्यात् ।

पुनस्तस्योपरि जलं क्षिपेत् रुद्राक्षं धारयेत् ।

एवं सर्वत्र विधिर्ज्ञयः ॥

 

Meaning: After contemplating in the mind, the dhyāna of the mantra, one must complete mantra japa for a 1000 count. Next, place the associated rudrākṣa(s) relevant to the mantra, in a copper mug/jug/vessel on top of a copper plate preferably and place it in front of ourselves. Perform five rounds of Prāṇāyāma. Then place a water jug to the left. Using the right hand, perform another round of mantra japa for a 1000 count. Next, sprinkle water from the water jug upon the rudrākṣa(s) placed in front and then wear them. This same procedure should be repeated for all faceted rudrākṣas with their relevant mantras.

 

  1. Viniyogaḥ (विनियोगः) -

वाँ बीजं ।

क्राँ शक्तिः ।

मम अभीष्टसिद्ध्यर्थे रुद्राक्ष धारणार्थे जपे विनियोगः

 

Meaning: This prayer/mantra japa is to invoke Śrī Brahmā and perform His mantra japa to obtain His complete grace in the fulfillment of the four puruṣārthas: dharma (righteousness), artha (wealth), kāma (desires) and mokṣa (liberation) and to energize and activate the four-faced Rudrākṣa bead for wearing purposes.

The sage (ṛṣiḥ) is Śrī Bhārgava. The meter (chandas) for the mantra is Anuṣṭup and the deity(devatā) is Śrī Brahmā. The seed (bīja) mantra is Vam̐, the power (śakti) of the mantra rests with the mantra krām̐.

 

  1. Ṛṣyādi nyāsa ( ऋष्यादि न्यास ) -

vām̐ bījāya namaḥ guhye ।

वाँ बीजाय नमः गुह्ये ।

 

Touch the genitalia with the right ring finger and thumb joined together.

क्राँ शक्तये नमः पादयोः ।

Touch the feet with the right ring finger and thumb joined together.

Run both the palms all over the body.

ॐ हाँ कणिष्ठिकाभ्यां वौषट् ।

Use both the thumbs on the little fingers.

ॐ ईँ करतलकर पृष्ठाभ्यां फट् ।

Open both the palms; run the opened palms of the right hand on the front and back sides of the left palm and repeat the same for the other palm.

इति कराङ्ग न्यासः ॥

Thus ends the six-part Karāṅga nyāsa.

ॐ हाँ नेत्रत्रयाय वौषट् ।

Touch the eyes with the right index and ring fingers, with the middle finger touching the ājñā cakra.

om̐ īm̐ astrāya phaṭ

ॐ ईँ अस्त्राय फट्

Open up the left palm and strike it three times with index and middle fingers of the right hand.

iti ṣaḍāṅga nyāsaḥ ॥

इति षडाङ्ग न्यासः ॥

Thus ends the six-part aḍāṅga nyāsa.

 

bhūr-bhuva-ssuvarom-iti digbandhaḥ

भूर्भुवस्सुवरोम् इति दिग्बन्धः

Meaning: May the directions be charmed and bound, to prevent any external influences of the triads – the Earth, atmosphere and the heavens.

 

  1. Dhyānam (ध्यानम्) -

praṇamya śirasā śaśvadaṣṭavaktraṃ caturmukham
gāyatrī sahitaṃ devaṃ namāmi vidhimīśvaram

प्रणम्य शिरसा शश्वदष्टवक्त्रं चतुर्मुखम् ।

गायत्री सहितं देवं नमामि विधिमीश्वरम्

 

Meaning – Salutations and deep reverence with our heads bowed to the everlasting eight-faced fearsome Lord Bhairava and the four-faced Creator Lord Brahma. Salutations to the Divine Mother Gāyatrī and all gods! This is the procedure for the activation of the four faced Rudrākṣa favored by Lord Īśvarā.

यँ वायव्यात्मने धूपम् कल्पयामि नमः

 

Hold the lower tip of the bottom phalange of the index fingers of both hands with the upper tip of the thumbs, with the back of the hand facing us.

ram̐ vahniyātmane dīpam kalpayāmi namaḥ

रँ वह्नियात्मने दीपम् कल्पयामि नमः ।

Hold the lower tip of the bottom phalange of the middle fingers of both hands with the upper tip of the thumbs, with the back of the hand facing us.

vam̐ amṛtātmane naivedyam kalpayāmi namaḥ

वँ अमृतात्मने नैवेद्यम् कल्पयामि नमः ।

Hold the lower tip of the bottom phalange of the ring fingers of both hands with the upper tip of the thumbs, with the back of the hand facing us.

sam̐ sarvātmane tāmbūlādi sarvopacārān kalpayāmi namaḥ

सँ सर्वात्मने ताम्बूलादि सर्वोपचारान् कल्पयामि नमः ।

Hold the fingers of each palm in a folded manner with the tips of the fingers of both hands touching each other and the thumbs facing the heart, in a Namaste position.

  1. Mantraḥ (मन्त्रः) -

om̐ vām̐ krām̐ tām̐ hām̐ īm̐

ॐ वाँ क्राँ ताँ हाँ ईँ

Meaning: This is a six syllabled mantra with each syllable representing a bīja (seed) mantra. The bīja mantras are described below. –

 

  1. om̐ () consists of – ‘au’ => healing and deep cleansing, m̐’ => removes misery. Ushers in auspiciousness.
  2. The bīja (seed) mantra vām̐ (रँ) consists of - ‘va’ indicating Varuṇa/Jala (water) denoting a thirst and quest for achievements of desired wishes and objectives, ‘ā’ representing massive power of attraction, expansion and assimilation, 'm̐' is vindu/bindu or duḥkhahara meaning removal of all miseries.

Overall, the bīja provides the quest and drive to achieve the desired objectives and removes all miseries.

It is also the Varadā Devi Mātṛkā bīja (seed) mantra representing wish fulfillment and an auspicious, favorable outcome of all endeavors.

  1. The Sindhūra bīja (seed) mantra krām̐ (क्राँ) indicates fierce transformative energy that can break through all karmic barriers and transform the state of our lives.
  2. The bīja (seed) mantra (ताँ) consists of – ‘ta’ => masya Devi Mātṛkā who signifies the expulsion of all darkness, hatred, jealously and other vices, ushering in compassion and true unconditional love. She is also the giver of fortune. She takes up the Kuṇḍalini to the Anāhata cakra., The bīja ‘ta’ is also associated with Śrī Tārā Devi, the One who leads us through the ocean of life and death (saṃsāra). The bīja ā of Ākarṣiṇi devi represents a double ‘a’, which is both Śiva and Śakti. She therefore represents the devolution of the Supreme Being into the five aspects of Creation (Brahma), Preservation (Viṣṇu), Destruction (Rudra), Annihilation (īśvara) and Resurrection (Sadāśiva). By definition She represents a great power of attraction and expansion. The bīja ‘m̐’ denotes removal of all miseries and is a facilitator of self-realization and ultimate liberation.

Overall, the bīja eradicates all vices, grants an expansion of consciousness, wish fulfillment and facilitates the removal of all miseries leading us to self-realization and ultimate liberation.

  1. The Śiva bīja (seed) mantra hām̐ (हाँ ) consists of - the letter ‘h’ representing Brahman/Śiva signifying auspiciousness, ‘ā’ representing massive power of attraction, expansion and assimilation, ‘’ is for removal of all miseries and facilitation of self-realization and ultimate liberation.

Overall, the bīja provides significant expansion of our consciousness and helps in overcoming all the obstacles to usher in auspiciousness and fulfillment.

  1. The Kāmakalā bīja (seed) mantra īm̐ (ईँ) represents the union of Śiva and Śakti, the static and dynamic states of the super-consciousness. It leads us directly to self-realization and ultimate liberation. It is also the Īśāni devi bīja signifying the richness of divine perfection and is also the Turiyā bīja.

12. Samarpaṇam (समर्पणम्) –

 

guhyādi guhya goptvātvam gṛhaṇāsmat kṛtaṃ japaṃ
siddhirbhavatu me deva tvat prasadān mayī sthirā

गुह्यादि गुह्य गोप्त्वात्वम् गृहणास्मत् कृतं जपं ।

सिद्धिर्भवतु मे देव त्वत् प्रसदान् मयी स्थिरा

 

Meaning: May these secret offerings of mantra japa offered at my dwelling, yield the expected benefits and remain with us at all times by your benevolent grace O Lord!
