ŚRĪ BĀLĀ TRIPURA SUNDARĪ KAVACAM (श्री बाला त्रिपुर सुन्दरी कवचम्)
Prologue:-
Tripura represents Bālā, Sundarī and Bhairavī encompassing all the triads. Śrī Bālā represents the entirety of Creation and Knowledge within the Tripura analogy. She opens up new vistas of opportunity and bestows us with the knowledge to take advantage of the same. Mahidhara of Mantra Mahodadhi, states that Her mantra can bestow material riches equal to Kubera and also grant mokṣa or liberation, to the sincere devotees. All the deities of Tripura, namely Śrī Bālā, Sundarī and Bhairavī are associated with the three kūṭa-s or parts, namely - vāgbhava kūṭa, kāmarāja kūṭa and śakti kūṭa. The first vāgbhava kūṭa represents vāc or word, implying all the letters of the alphabet through which the entire Creation is expressed as well as the sounds emanating from the letters and their combination. Goddess Sarasvati, the Knowledge giver and the consort or Śakti of the Creator Brahma, is represented by Her bīja mantra aim̐ (ऐँ), which signifies the vāgbhava kūṭa in it’s entirety. Likewise, the kāmarāja kūṭa encompasses desires, wishes and continuity, which is represented by the Kāma bīja klīm̐ (क्लीँ). Lastly, the Śakti Kūṭa which represents the Super Consciousness or the Singular reality is represented by the parā bīja sauḥ (सौः). Śrī Bālā’s mantra is therefore “aim̐ klīm̐ sauḥ” (ऐँ क्लीँ सौः) and represents Her will and desire to Create, expand and ultimately grant Liberation.
This kavacam fulfills all the wishes of Her devotees and works best when combined with her mantra japa.
Śrī Bhairavī uvāca (श्री भैरवी उवाच):
devadeva! mahādeva! bhaktānāṃ prītivarddhana! sucitaṃ yat tvayā devyāḥ kavacaṃ kathayasva me ॥ 1 ॥
देवदेव! महादेव! भक्तानां प्रीतिवर्द्धन! सुचितं यत् त्वया देव्याः कवचं कथयस्व मे ॥ १ ॥
Śrī Bhairavī (Śakti) spoke:- O Lord Mahādeva, The Supreme being. The One who’s the favorite of all devotees and is easily pleased by their sincere devotion! Dear Lord, May you please enlighten me with the details of the Pure and pristine kavacam of Śrī Bālā?
Śrī Bhairava uvāca (श्री भैरव उवाच):

शृणु देवि! प्रवक्ष्यामि कवचम् देवदुर्लभम् ।

I want to relate an experience regarding the Kavacham posted above. I dreamed about Ravi sir, and Devi Herself saying that without this Kavacham, Sri Vidya mantra japa will not be fruitful and this Kavacham is a shield and protect all Sri Vidya Upaasakas and no harm or diseases will touch someone who recites it. She also said that she will blessed and bestow everything to the one who recites with sincere devotion. Never heard about the Kavacham before and thank you very much dear Krishna for posting it.

I received Batuka Bhairava from a qualified teacher. I am no expert, but it doesn't take long for his mantra to fructify. Life happens Roshan. Don't count on the a shield to prevent you from making good choices. Like driving a car without a seatbelt. Will the Creatrix bend the rules just for one jiva who chants a shield mantra? That being said, I have witnessed the power of my sweet and terrible lord protecting me during the last 6 months. Sanatana Dharma is the best shield my dear Roshan. To do what's right, to remain constantly in Bhairava consciousness, to follow the sadhana given to you by your Guru, and to fall madly in love with him or her, is the true way. Mother takes care of the details. As my old friend Santosh Kumar once told me, too much info confuses the mind. Sri matre namaha.

Hello, Sir! I have a question regarding the dhyana verse of this kavacham. I usually use the verse which starts with "raktakalambaram" to visualise Balambika during japa and prayers. Can I use that dhyana verse instead of the one in this kavacham before reciting the actual kavacham (which begins from "kavachamarambam")? If this is not advisable, could you kindly give a verbatim translation of the dhyana verse in this kavacham? It would be incredibly useful for someone like myself who has not learnt Sanskrit. Apologies for my deficiencies. Would sincerely appreciate your help. Many thanks.

You can look up the Sanskrit dictionary available online for a Verbatim meaning. You may need to split some of the sandhied words and this may need some Sanskrit expertise. We have provided what comes with the Kavacam. There is no harm in using another dhyāna śloka, if wish to add to the list. I would however not recommend substituting what has been given. The current explanation should suffice for this śloka.

Even if one is initiated into panchadashi mantra one should recite bala kavacha? इदं कवचमज्ञात्वा श्रीविद्यां यो जपेच्छिवे । स माप्नोति फलं तस्य प्राप्नुयाच्छस्त्र घातनम् ॥ १३ ॥ No benefits accrue to the Śrīvidyā devotees or to those who perform the japa or recitation of Śiva mantras, if the knowledge of this kavacam is not bestowed.

ŚrīBālā mantras provide the foundation and basis for Śrīvidyā. It should be noted that the Śuddha Pañcadaśī mantra becomes the Saubhāgya Pañcadaśī mantra only when it is combined with the Tryākṣarī Bālā mantra. For the Bālā mantras to be effective, this kavacam is considered essential. It maybe substituted by equivalent kavacams of Śrī Lalitā when one is reciting Her mantras. The decision of the guru must be considered final and his/her advice overrides my suggestions here.

It can be chanted at dawn, noon and dusk and the mantra japa can be in between or before or even after the recitation of the kavacam. It is part of the mantra pañcāṅga.
