Purpose – Eradication of all types of diseases and adverse health conditions.
1. Viniyogaḥ (विनियोगः) -
asyaśrī dhanvantarī mahāmantrasya ।
apāntaratamase ṛṣiḥ ।
triṣṭup chandaḥ ।
dhanvantari devatā ।
om̐ bījaṃ ।
svāhā śaktiḥ ।
namaḥ kīlakaṃ ।
mama sarvaroga vināśanārthe siddhyarthe śrī-guror-anujñāyā mahāmantra jape viniyogaḥ ॥
अस्यश्री धन्वन्तरी महामन्त्रस्य ।
अपान्तरतमसे ऋषिः ।
त्रिष्टुप् छन्दः ।
धन्वन्तरि देवता ।
ॐ बीजं ।
स्वाहा शक्तिः ।
नमः कीलकं ।
मम सर्वरोग विनाशनार्थे सिद्ध्यर्थे श्रीगुरोरनुज्ञाया महामन्त्र जपे विनियोगः ॥
Meaning - This prayer/mantra japa is to invoke Śrī Dhanvantari in our heart, perform mantra japa to obtain His complete grace in all aspects, including the four puruṣārthas – dharma (following own nature), artha (wealth), kāma (desires) and mokṣa (liberation) and all desires that one may seek from the Divine. The sage who visually saw this mantra (ṛṣiḥ) is Śrī Apāntaratamas. The meter (chandas) for the mantra is Triṣṭup of forty-four syllables and its variations. The deity is Śrī Dhanvantari, the seed (bījaṃ) is om̐, the power (śakti) is svāhā. The key (kīlaka) that binds the mantra is namaḥ. By the grace and command of our guru and the guru lineage, we pledge to undertake the mantra japa in full earnest.

ॐ त्रैलोक्यनाथाय तेजसे - कनिष्टिकाभ्यां वौषट् । |
Use both the thumbs and run them on both the little fingers. |

om̐ viṣṇave svāhā vīryāya - karatalakarapruṣṭābhyāṃ phaṭ । |
ॐ विष्णवे स्वाहा वीर्याय - करतलकरप्रुष्टाभ्यां फट् । |
Open both the palms; run the opened palms of the right hand on the front and back sides of the left palm and repeat the same for the other palm. |

Thus ends the six-part Kara nyāsa. |
4. Ṣaḍāṅga nyāsaḥ (षडाङ्गन्यासः) -

Cross both the hands and touch both shoulders with the palms. |

ॐ त्रैलोक्यनाथाय तेजसे - नेत्रत्रयाय वौषट् । |
Touch the eyes with the right index and ring fingers, with the middle finger touching the ājña cakra. |

om̐ viṣṇave svāhā vīryāya - astrāya phaṭ । |
ॐ विष्णवे स्वाहा वीर्याय - अस्त्राय फट् । |
Open up the left palm and strike it three times with index and middle fingers of the right hand. |
7 |
iti ṣaḍaṅga nyāsaḥ ॥ |
इति षडङ्ग न्यासः ॥ |
Thus ends the six-part Ṣaḍāṅga nyāsa. |
bhūr-bhuva-ssuvarom-iti digbandhaḥ ॥
भूर्भुवस्सुवरोम् इति दिग्बन्धः ॥
Meaning: May the directions be charmed and bound, to prevent any external obstacles from the powers residing in the triads – the Earth, atmosphere and the heavens.
5. Dhyānam (ध्यानम् ) -
acyutānanta govinda viṣṇo nārāyaṇāmṛta ।
rogānme nāśayāśeṣā nāśu dhanvantare hare ॥ 1 ॥
अच्युतानन्त गोविन्द विष्णो नारायणामृत ।
रोगान्मे नाशयाशेषा नाशु धन्वन्तरे हरे ॥ १ ॥
Meaning: Salutations to the universal healer Lord Dhanvantari who removes all types of ailments, diseases and health disorders. He is none other than the omnipresent, omnipotent and omniscient Lord Viṣṇu who governs over all the sentient beings and is the Sustainer of the entire Creation. Lord Dhanvantari completely removes all types of disorders and grants perfect health to His sincere devotees.
śīrṣālika śrutivilocana ghoṇagaṇḍa dantoṣṭa pāṇi pada sandhiṣu sāgrakeṣu ।
ādhāra nābhi jaṭhara stana pṛṣṭha hṛtsu mantrākṣarāṇisita dhīrṇyasa utkrameṇa ॥ 2 ॥
शीर्षालिक श्रुतिविलोचन घोणगण्ड दन्तोष्ट पाणि पद सन्धिषु साग्रकेषु ।
आधार नाभि जठर स्तन पृष्ठ हृत्सु मन्त्राक्षराणिसित धीर्ण्यस उत्क्रमेण ॥ २ ॥
Meaning: He sports a large U-shaped mark on His forehead (tilakam). He protects devotees from all types of diseases and disorders related to the ears, eyes, nose, cheeks, teeth/dental, arms, throat, mouth and tongue, as well as any and all types of hair problems. Other body disorders and health conditions related to the hips, navel, abdomen, chest, back problems, heart conditions are all set right with the recitation of His divine mantras. There is no health disorder or disease that is not eliminated by His grace!
śaṅkham cakram jalūkāṃ dadhad-amṛta-ghaṭam cāpi-dorbhiś-caturbhiḥ ।
sūkṣma-svacchāti hṛdyāmśuka parivilasanmauli mambhoja-netram ॥ 3 ॥
शङ्खम् चक्रम् जलूकां दधदमृतघटम् चापिदोर्भिश्चतुर्भिः ।
सूक्ष्मस्वच्छाति हृद्याम्शुक परिविलसन्मौलि मम्भोजनेत्रम् ॥ ३ ॥
Meaning: He holds a conch, discus, a leech and a pot containing the elixir of immortality in His four arms. He is blemish less in appearance and has a garment across His chest (aṅga vastram). He sports a dazzling crown and has lotus like eyes.
He ensures a complete cure of all health conditions and frees the devotees from all illnesses. The conch and discuss blind us away from all distractions and help us tune into the frequencies of the Divine Lord. The leech represents blood letting to remove any impurities and the pot of elixir ensures long life with perfect health. His dazzling crown and lotus like eyes captivate us towards Him thereby relieving us of anxiety and worries.
kālāmbhodojjvalāṅgam kaṭitaṭi vilasaccāru pītāmbarāḍhyam ।
vande dhanvantarintam nikhilagadavana prauḍhadāvāgnilīlam ॥ 4 ॥
कालाम्भोदोज्ज्वलाङ्गम् कटितटि विलसच्चारु पीताम्बराढ्यम् ।
वन्दे धन्वन्तरिन्तम् निखिलगदवन प्रौढदावाग्निलीलम् ॥ ४ ॥
Meaning: His body shines forth like a dark rain cloud and is adorned in yellow garments up to His waist, lending a very pleasing and handsome appearance. Praise be upon Lord Dhanvantari, who completely eradicates the most complex diseases and adverse health conditions, similar to a major forest fire gutting down the entire area.

Hold the lower tip of the bottom phalange of the middle fingers of both hands with the upper tip of the thumbs. |

vam̐ amṛtātmane naivedyam kalpayāmi namaḥ । |
वँ अमृतात्मने नैवेद्यम् कल्पयामि नमः । |
Hold the lower tip of the bottom phalange of the ring fingers of both hands with the upper tip of the thumbs. |

sam̐ sarvātmane karpūramiśrita tāmbūlādi sarvopacārān kalpayāmi namaḥ । |
सँ सर्वात्मने कर्पूरमिश्रित ताम्बूलादि सर्वोपचारान् कल्पयामि नमः । |
Hold the fingers of each palm in a folded manner with the tips of the fingers of both hands touching each other and the thumbs facing the heart, in a Namaste position. |

Thus ends the Pañcapūjā. |
7. Mantraḥ (मन्त्रः)
Om Namo bhagavate dhanvantaraye amṛtakalaśa hastāya sarvāmaya vināśanāya trailokyanāthāya viṣṇave svāhā ॥
ॐ नमो भगवते धन्वन्तरये अमृतकलश हस्ताय सर्वामय विनाशनाय त्रैलोक्यनाथाय विष्णवे स्वाहा ॥
The 41 lettered Śrī Dhanvantari mantra should be recited at least 108 times. Initiation is essential.
Meaning -
This is a forty-one syllabled mantra with some syllables representing bīja (seed) mantras. The parts of the main mantra including the bījas are described below. –
- The bīja (seed) mantra om̐ (ॐ) consists of – ‘au’ => healing and deep cleansing, ‘m̐’ => removes misery. Ushers in auspiciousness.
- The bīja (seed) mantra namo (नमो) refers to our salutations to the Divine and constitutes a bond that is nurtured in our heart.
- The words “bhagavate dhanvantaraye (भगवते धन्वन्तरये)” refer to the Divine eminence of Śrī Dhanvantari referred in the vocative case.
- The words “amṛtakalaśa hastāya (अमृतकलश हस्ताय)” denote a pot of elixir that Lord Dhanvantari holds in one of His four arms. The elixir is also the same cerebral fluid that is discharged when the Kuṇḍalinī śakti activates the ājñā cakra completely during its ascent.
- The word “sarvāmaya (सर्वामय)” denotes “all types of diseases and adverse health conditions”.
- The word “vināśanāya (विनाशनाय)” signifies complete annihilation.
- The word “trailokyanāthāya (त्रैलोक्यनाथाय)” denotes the Lordship over all the triads. Lord Dhanvantari is praised as the Lord of all triads.
- The word “viṣṇave (विष्णवे)” denotes His attributes of omnipresence, omnipotence and omniscience.
- The Vahnisundarī bīja (seed) mantra svāhā (स्वाहा) represents complete submission and surrender to the Divine.
Salutations to the highly revered Divine in the form of Śrī Dhanvantari who completely eliminates and cures all types of ailments and adverse health conditions of His sincere devotees.

Meaning: May the directions get unlocked to allow ourselves to experience the grace from all the triads of the three realms.
9. Dhyānam (ध्यानम् ) -

11. Samarpaṇam (समर्पणम्) –
guhyādi guhya goptvātvam gṛhaṇāsmat kṛtaṃ japaṃ ।
siddhirbhavatu me deva tvat prasadān mayī sthirā ॥
गुह्यादि गुह्य गोप्त्वात्वम् गृहणास्मत् कृतं जपं ।
सिद्धिर्भवतु मे देव त्वत् प्रसदान् मयी स्थिरा ॥
Meaning: O Lord, you are the most hidden secret of all secrets. May these mantra japa counts performed by me, be offered to you in totality. Our prayers and hope, are that your grace shall remain with us always.
