Prologue :- The one hundred and eight names and attributes of Śrī Kamalā Devi are derived from the Śrī Kamalā Aṣṭottara Śatanāma Stotram. The attributes can be traced further back to the tantras and Purāṇā-s. Reciting the attributes and extolling the Divine Mother is said to fetch immense benefits in both the material and spiritual realms.

Salutations to the One Who is the destroyer of Mahiṣāsura, the buffalo-faced asura with demonic qualities. Such qualities as stubbornness , laziness, and continuing to remain in the same old path and refusing to change for the better, are equated with the buffalo, which always prefers a dirty pond to a clear water lake. Kamala is the One Who removes all such negative traits in us and helps us achieve great heights and accomplish all our cherished wishes, desires and goals. |

Salutations to the One Who is the Supreme darkness from which emerges the light that sustains all Creation. She is the highest state of consciousness also called “Turiyā,” which is a pure blissful state where nothing exists but pure joy and bliss. |

Salutations to the One Who holds a conch (śaṅkh) whose sound dispels inauspiciousness. |

Madhu and Kaiṭabha represent intoxicated pride and ego, as well as a noxious and annoying attitude that comes from it, which can completely vanish by Her side glance and the grace that emanates from it, leading to the kuṇḍalini activation and the true experience of the expansion of consciousness. |

How is the “ai” pronounced at the end of many of these names? Like the hard A sound in way? Or the hard I sound in the word eye? Based on the Sanskrit spelling, it should be pronounced as “eye”, right? However, in recordings of all sorts of mantras, people use an hard A sound, like in stay. For example, ॐ चन्द्रावल्यै नमः। is said as oṃ candrāvalyay namaḥ।, but the Sanskrit spelling indicates different pronunciation
