Meaning :- We meditate upon the Divine Mother Śrī Nakulī Vāgīśvarī Śyāmalā, who is seated on a majestic eagle bird (Garuḍa). She appears very charming and fearless riding swifly upon Her mount. She is the origin of all the letters of the alphabet that use the palettes of the mouth. With one set of arms, She plays the musical instrument Vīṇā and generates very sweet sounds resembling those of a parrot. On another set of arms, She bears a cakra and a conch. She has a passionate Rājasic temperament and serves as a secondary attendant beside Vāgvādinī, who’s the charioteer and primary attendant of Śrī Rāja Śyāmalā.

She is the holder of the musical instrument Vīṇā. This lute type instrument has 24 frets representing the syllables of the Gāyatrī mantra. There are four melody strings that represent the holy Vedas. Also, there are three drone strings on the side, that signify the three nāḍīs or spiritual channels in the body that facilitate the rise of the Kuṇḍalini. They are the central channel Suṣumnā, the right channel Piṅgalā and the left Iḍā. The stem of the Vīṇā itself represents the spine along which the Kuṇḍalini flows. The music from the Vīṇā signifies all the frequencies and wavelengths of the entire Creation.

The word Nakulī signifies a mongoose. The bird Garuḍa is said to have preyed upon serpents at one point of time, until some relief was granted to the serpents from His menace. A mongoose is believed to rub itself with some herbs to protect itself from serpent stings and this enables these animals to skillfully prey upon serpents. The Kuṇḍalini is viewed as a sleeping serpent resting at the root mūlādhāra cakra, also referred to as kula sahasrāra and when awakened, slithers through the spinal cord Suṣumnā nāḍi awakening the cakras from the root to the third-eye ājñā. The spinal cord ends at the medulla oblangata and the jump to the sahasrāra occurs with the help of the Divine Mother Nakulī, who picks up the Kuṇḍalini and places it in the akula sahasrāra on the crown of the head. The mongoose is very adept at fighting the serpents and subduing them. The same is a reference to the Divine Mother Nakulī, in correcting the flow of the Kuṇḍalini, awakening the cakras and ultimately the akula sahasrāra on the crown of our head.

The cakra She holds cuts through the fabric of karma to elevate our consciousness and it also signifies the six cakras in our astral body. The conch She holds, amplifies the energies of the alphabet (Sanskrit) mātṛika śaktis throughout the entire Creation.
