Sri Svapna Varahi Astadasakshara Mantra Japa

Svapna vārāhī aṣṭādaśākṣara mantra japa ( स्वप्न वाराही अष्टादशाक्षर मन्त्र जप )

Source- śrī vidyārṇava tantram, dakṣiṇāmurti Samhita and paraśurāmakalpasūtra.

1. Viniyogaḥ ( विनियोगः ) :-

asya śrī svapna vārāhī mahāmantrasya ।
īśvara ṛṣiḥ ।
gāyatrī chandaḥ ।
śrī svapna vārāhī devatā ।
om̐ bījaṃ ।
svāhā śaktiḥ ।
hrīm̐ kīlakaṃ ।
mama svapna vārāhī prasāda siddhyarthe jape viniyogaḥ ॥

अस्य श्री स्वप्न वाराही महामन्त्रस्य ।
ईश्वर ऋषिः ।
गायत्री छन्दः ।
श्री स्वप्न वाराही देवता ।
ॐ बीजं ।
स्वाहा शक्तिः ।
ह्रीँ कीलकं ।
मम स्वप्न वाराही प्रसाद सिद्ध्यर्थे जपे विनियोगः ॥

Meaning:- This prayer/mantra japa is to invoke śrī svapna vārāhī and perform Her mantra japa to the obtain Her complete grace in all aspects. The sage/ṛṣiḥ is īśvara, the meter for the mantra is jagatī and the deity is śrī svapna vārāhī, the seed/bījaṃ is om̐, the power or śakti is hrīm̐. The secret to unlock the mantra or kīlakaṃ is ṭhaḥ ṭhaḥ.

2. ṛṣyādi nyāsa ( ऋष्यादि न्यास ) :-

2	gāyatrī chandase namaḥ mukhe	गायत्री छन्दसे नमः मुखे	Now touch the mouth at the lips with the above mudrā.
3	śrī svapna vārāhī devatāyai namaḥ hṛdi	श्री स्वप्न वाराही देवतायै नमः हृदि	Touch the heart with the right palm.
4	oṃ bījāya namaḥ guhye	ॐ बीजाय नमः गुह्ये	Touch the genetalia with the right hand fingers.
5	svāhā śaktaye namaḥ pādayoḥ	स्वाहा शक्तये नमः पादयोः	Touch the feet with both the hands.
6	hrīm̐ kīlakāya namaḥ nābhau	ह्रीँ कीलकाय नमः नाभौ	Touch the navel with the right hand fingers.
7	oṃ viniyogāya namaḥ sarvāṅge	ॐ विनियोगाय नमः सर्वाङ्गे	Run both the palms all over the body.
	iti ṛṣyādi nyāsaḥ	इति ऋष्यादि न्यासः

3. varṇa nyāsa ( वर्ण न्यास ) :-

4	mom̐ namaḥ vāmajānuni	मोँ नमः वामजानुनि	Touch the left knees with the thumb and ring fingers joined at the top of the right hand.
5	vam̐ namaḥ liṇge	वँ नमः लिण्गे	Touch the genitals with the thumb and ring fingers joined at the top of the right hand.
6	ram̐ namaḥ dakṣakaṭau	रँ नमः दक्षकटौ	Touch the right hips with the thumb and ring fingers joined at the top of the left hand.
7	hyam̐ namaḥ vāmakaṭau	ह्यँ नमः वामकटौ	Touch the left hips with the thumb and ring fingers joined at the top of the right hand.
8	ghom̐ namaḥ kaṇṭhe	घोँ नमः कण्ठे	Touch the throat with the thumb and ring fingers joined at the top of the right hand.
9	rem̐ namaḥ dakṣagaṇḍe	रेँ नमः दक्षगण्डे	Touch the right cheeks with the thumb and ring fingers joined at the top of the left hand.
10	śvam̐ namaḥ vāmagaṇḍe	श्वँ नमः वामगण्डे	Touch the left cheeks with the thumb and ring fingers joined at the top of the right hand.
11	rim̐ namaḥ dakṣanetre	रिँ नमः दक्षनेत्रे	Touch the right eyes with the thumb and ring fingers joined at the top of the left hand.
12	svam̐ namaḥ vāmanetre	स्वँ नमः वामनेत्रे	Touch the left eyes with the thumb and ring fingers joined at the top of the right hand.
13	pnam̐ namaḥ dakṣakarṇe	प्नँ नमः दक्षकर्णे	Touch the right ears with the thumb and ring fingers joined at the top of the left hand.
14	ṭhaḥ namaḥ vāmakarṇe	ठः नमः वामकर्णे	Touch the left ears with the thumb and ring fingers joined at the top of the right hand.
15	ṭhaḥ namaḥ dakṣanāsāyāṃ	ठः नमः दक्षनासायां	Touch the right nostril with the thumb and ring fingers joined at the top of the left hand.
16	svām̐ namaḥ vāmanāsāyāṃ	स्वाँ नमः वामनासायां	Touch the left nostril with the thumb and ring fingers joined at the top of the right hand.
17	ham̐ namaḥ mūrdhni	हँ नमः मूर्ध्नि	Touch the head with the thumb and ring fingers joined at the top of the right hand.
	Iti varṇa nyāsa	इति वर्ण न्यास

4. Kara nyāsa ( कर न्यास ) :-

3	vārāhi madhyamābhyāṃ namaḥ	वाराहि मध्यमाभ्यां नमः	Use both the thumbs on the middle fingers.
4	aghoreśvari anāmikābhyāṃ namaḥ	अघोरेश्वरि अनामिकाभ्यां नमः	Use both the thumbs on the ring fingers.
5	svapnaṃ ṭhaḥ ṭhaḥ kaniṣṭikhābhyāṃ namaḥ	स्वप्नं ठः ठः कनिष्टिखाभ्यां नमः	Use both the thumbs on the little fingers.
6	svāhā karatalakara pṛṣṭhābhyāṃ namaḥ	स्वाहा करतलकर पृष्ठाभ्यां नमः	Open both the palms; run the opened palms of the right hand on the front and back sides of the left palm and repeat the same for the other palm.
7	iti kara nyāsaḥ	इति कर न्यासः

5. ṣaḍaṅga nyāsa ( षडङ्ग न्यास ) :-

1	oṃ hrīm̐ hṛdayāya namaḥ	ॐ ह्रीँ हृदयाय नमः	Open index, middle and ring fingers of the right hand and place them on the heart chakra.
2	namo śirase svāhā	नमो शिरसे स्वाहा	Open middle and ring fingers of the right hand and touch the top of the forehead.
3	vārāhi śikhāyai vaṣaṭ	वाराहि शिखायै वषट्	Open the right thumb and touch the back of the head. This is the point where the tuft of hair, is kept.
4	aghoreśvari kavacāya huṃ	अघोरेश्वरि कवचाय हुं	Cross both the hands and run the fully opened palms from shoulders to finger tips.
5	svapnaṃ ṭhaḥ ṭhaḥ netratrayāya vauṣaṭ	स्वप्नं ठः ठः नेत्रत्रयाय वौषट्	Touch the eyes with the right index and ring fingers, with the middle finger touching the ājña cakra.
6	svāhā astrāya phaṭ	स्वाहा अस्त्राय फट्	Open up the left palm and strike it three times with index and middle fingers of the right hand.
7	iti ṣaḍaṅga nyāsaḥ	इति षडङ्ग न्यासः

bhūrbhuvassuvaromiti digbandhaḥ ॥
भूर्भुवस्सुवरोमिति दिग्बन्धः॥

6. Dhyānam ( ध्यानम् ) :-

nīlāñjanagiriśyāmāṃ hemaratnavibhūṣitām ।
aśvarūḍhāṃ ca vārāhīṃ pāśāṅkuśadharāṃ śubhām ॥
bhīmarūpāṃ mahādevīṃ khaḍgakheṭakadhāriṇīm ।
caturbhujāṃ tīkṣṇadaṃṣṭrāṃ daṃṣṭrāgrasthavasundharām ॥
duṣṭaharaṇodyuktāṃ sādhakasya varapradām ।
dhyāyed-añjana-bhūdharojjvalanibhām-aśvādhirūḍhāṃ-karair-bibhrāṇāṃ maṇi-hema-bhūṣita-tanuṃ pāśāṃṅkuśau bhairavīṃ ।
khaḍgaṃ kheṭakamagra-daṃṣṭra-vilasat-pṛthvīmari-dhvaṃsinīṃ devīṃ tuṅgapayodharām-anudinaṃ śrīsvapnavārāhikām ॥

नीलाञ्जनगिरिश्यामां हेमरत्नविभूषिताम् ।
अश्वरूढां च वाराहीं पाशाङ्कुशधरां शुभाम् ॥
भीमरूपां महादेवीं खड्गखेटकधारिणीम् ।
चतुर्भुजां तीक्ष्णदंष्ट्रां दंष्ट्राग्रस्थवसुन्धराम् ॥
दुष्टहरणोद्युक्तां साधकस्य वरप्रदाम् ।
ध्यायेदञ्जनभूधरोज्ज्वलनिभामश्वाधिरूढांकरैर्बिभ्राणां मणिहेमभूषिततनुं पाशांङ्कुशौ भैरवीं ।
खड्गं खेटकमग्रदंष्ट्रविलसत्पृथ्वीमरिध्वंसिनीं देवीं तुङ्गपयोधरामनुदिनं श्रीस्वप्नवाराहिकाम् ॥

Meaning:- Svapna Vārāhi should be meditated upon as having the dark blue lustre of mountains and shining like a precious emerald, well-endowed and having three eyes, with a boar face. She’s adorned with a crescent moon on Her head, shining with the Earth placed on Her tusks. She holds a sword, shield, noose and a goad in Her hands. She’s mounted on a horse and bedecked with ornaments. She’s enormous in size and with four arms, extremely sharp teeth. She’s the vanquisher of all enemies and evil and the granter of all wishes of Her devotees.

7. Pañcapūjā ( पञ्चपूजा ) :-

1	lam̐ - pṛthivyātmikāyai gandhaṁ samarpayāmi \|	लँ - पृथिव्यात्मिकायै गन्धं समर्पयामि।	Hold the lower tip of the bottom phalange of the little fingers of both hands with the upper tip of the thumbs, with the back of the palm facing us.
2	ham̐ - ākāśātmikāyai puṣpaiḥ pūjayāmi \|	हँ - आकाशात्मिकायै पुष्पैः पूजयामि।	Hold the lower tip of the bottom phalange of the thumbs of both hands with the upper tip/nails of the index fingers, with the back of the palm facing us.
3	yam̐ - vāyvātmikāyai dhūpamāghrāpayāmi \|	यँ - वाय्वात्मिकायै धूपमाघ्रापयामि।	Hold the lower tip of the bottom phalange of the index fingers of both hands with the upper tip of the thumbs, with the back of the palm facing us.
4	ram̐ - agnyātmikāyai dīpaṁ darśayāmi \|	रँ - अग्न्यात्मिकायै दीपं दर्शयामि।	Hold the lower tip of the bottom phalange of the middle fingers of both hands with the upper tip of the thumbs, with the back of the palm facing us.
5	vam̐ - amṛtātmikāyai amṛtaṁ mahānaivedyaṁ nivedayāmi \|	वँ - अमृतात्मिकायै अमृतं महानैवेद्यं निवेदयामि।	Hold the lower tip of the bottom phalange of the ring fingers of both hands with the upper tip of the thumbs, with the back of the palm facing us.
6	sam̐ - sarvātmikāyai sarvopacāra pūjām samarpayāmi \|\|	सँ - सर्वात्मिकायै सर्वोपचार पूजाम् समर्पयामि॥	Hold the fingers of each palm in a folded manner with the tips of each fingers of both hands touching each other and the thumbs facing the heart, in a Namaste position.

8. japamālā mantraṃ ( जपमाला मन्त्रं ) :- Recite the below mantra once, to pray to the japa māla and invoke the blessings for a fruitful japa.

oṃ māṃ māle mahāmāye sarvamantra svarūpiṇi।
caturvarga stvayinyasta stasmānye siddhidā bhava॥

ॐ मां माले महामाये सर्वमन्त्र स्वरूपिणि।
चतुर्वर्ग स्त्वयिन्यस्त स्तस्मान्ये सिद्धिदा भव॥

9. guru mantra ( गुरु मन्त्र ) :- Recite the following guru mantra once, to seek the blessings of all gurus and the Guru.

oṃ hrīṃ siddhaguro prasīda hrīṃ oṃ
ॐ ह्रीं सिद्धगुरो प्रसीद ह्रीं ॐ

10. aṣṭādaśākṣari mantra ( अष्टादशाक्षरि मन्त्र ) :- The 18 lettered mantra is –

oṃ hrīm̐ namo vārāhi aghoreśvari svapnaṃ ṭhaḥ ṭhaḥ svāhā ॥
ॐ ह्रीँ नमो वाराहि अघोरेश्वरि स्वप्नं ठः ठः स्वाहा ॥

The above mantra should be recited using the above consecrated japa māla. The māla should have 108 beads plus a meru or head bead. The count is from the meru bead and back. The meru bead itself should not be counted. When the count reaches the meru, flip the māla, to count in reverse and so on, for the decided number of māla counts.

Mantra meaning:- Salutations to the Divine Mother Svapna Vārāhi, the granter of all wishes and foreteller of all events to come, in our dreams.

11. ṣaḍaṅga nyāsa ( षडङ्ग न्यास ) :-

6	sam̐ - sarvātmikāyai sarvopacāra pūjām samarpayāmi \|\|	सँ - सर्वात्मिकायै सर्वोपचार पूजाम् समर्पयामि॥	Hold the fingers of each palm in a folded manner with the tips of each fingers of both hands touching each other and the thumbs facing the heart, in a Namaste position.

14. Samarpaṇam ( समर्पणम् ) :- Take water in uttaraṇi and by reciting the following śloka, offer the water to the earth

गुह्यातिगुह्यगोप्त्री त्वं गृहाणास्मात्कृतं जपम्।
सिद्धिर्भवतु मे देवि त्वत्प्रसादान्मयि स्तिरा॥

guhyātiguhyagoptrī tvaṁ gṛhāṇāsmat-kṛtaṁ japam।
siddhirbhavatu me devi tvatprasādānmayi sthirā ॥

15. japānaṃtaraṃ mālāmantraṃ ( जपानंतरं मालामन्त्रं ) :- Recite the below śloka and mantra, followed by placing the māla upon the top of the head and then place it back in the māla bag and conceal it. It should NOT be worn.

śloka॥ oṃ tvaṃ māle sarvadevānāṃ prītidā śubhadā bhava।

śubhaṃ kuruṣya me bhadre yaśo vīryaṃ ca dehime॥

श्लोक॥ ॐ त्वं माले सर्वदेवानां प्रीतिदा शुभदा भव।

शुभं कुरुष्य मे भद्रे यशो वीर्यं च देहिमे॥

mantra॥ oṃ hrīṃ siddhyai namaḥ॥

मन्त्र॥ ॐ ह्रीं सिद्ध्यै नमः॥
